Ø
Buy a copy of the Tallinn “In Your
Pocket” Guide (published monthly) from any good bookshop (see Felix &
Fabian on Harju street near the main Town Hall Square, Raekoja Plats; or Apollo Raamatumaja on Viru street near the Viru Gate) for comprehensive and impartial information. It includes a full what’s on guide, information on hotels &
accommodation, sightseeing, pubs, restaurants, nightlife, maps, ferry, bus
and train information etc – all written in an informed & informal way
with actual reviews of places (not just the usual advertising fodder). Ø
Take
time to wander around the streets and gain your bearings. Around every corner there is yet another
beautiful building or vista. Ø
Take
time to soak up the atmosphere in a street bar in Raekoja Plats (and drink
the excellent local beer). Ø
Try some
classical music. Check out the “In
Your Pocket” guide or ask at the Tourist Information Centre on the corner of
Niguliste 2 and Kullassepa 4 (on the way from the apartment to Raekoja
Plats). Ø
Sample
some Georgian, Estonian or Russian cuisine.
Must Lammas (a Georgian restaurant) is excellent. Ø
If you
like good Italian food, book a table upstairs in Controvento (tel: 644 04 70)
down a side alley off Vene street 12. Ø
If you
are up for a night on the town, try the Nimega Bar on Suur Karja 13. Ø
Try to
get out of the city at least once…..the ferry to unspoilt island of Naissaar
is an interesting contrast to the city and is only 8.5km from the mainland. |
